Don't get caught up in this feature - it's quite easy for their marketing department to overplay it. At the end of the day, the huge shortage of staff in Britain is what will enable you to get a job.

CV and Interview advice and support is sometimes offered (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Ensure you update that dusty old CV today - don't wait until you've finished your exams! You'll often find that you'll secure your first position whilst still on the course (even in the early stages). If you haven't updated your CV to say what you're studying - or it's not getting in front of interviewers, then you aren't even in the running! The most efficient companies to get you a new position are most often independent and specialised local recruitment services. Because they make their money when they've found you a job, they have more incentive to get on with it.

Any advisor who doesn't dig around with lots of question - it's likely they're really a salesperson. If they wade straight in with a specific product before learning about your history and whether you have any commercial experience, then you know you're being sold to. With a strong background, or even a touch of commercial experience (some certifications gained previously perhaps?) then obviously the point from which you begin your studies will be very different from a trainee who has no experience. The vendor neutral worldwide organisation CompTIA now offers perhaps the most familiar & widely respected independent IT qualifications. There are also several other companies, such as the 'ISC2' (abbreviated from their somewhat long-winded: 'International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium'!) and CWNP (Certified Wireless Network Professional). Most conspicuously however are Cisco and Microsoft themselves, each with their very own certification paths. As there are so many training and career possibilities in this sector, it's prudent to take more in depth guidance from an experienced expert prior to selecting your specific route. You could save yourself a whole lot of time & money, to say nothing of stress and discouragement.
